Evolution of the Cover Image

The cover concept
I wanted all the main elements of the novel to be represented in the cover image; urban life, superheroism, science and medicine. I toyed with a lot of ideas and took a lot of photos before settling on this.
After we had all the raw elements in place we called on the power of the Gimp, Paint and a hell of a lot of techno-savvy. Eventually through time, effort, love and care the front cover was born thanks to my trusty sidekick and partner (in editing/marketing and good old common sense).

- A superhero figurine posed in various positions shot on my trusty mobile phone.
- Photograph of a syringe obtained from Wikimedia Commons. This would be used to double up as a building, alluding to both drug abuse and medicine/science.
- Finally, the clue to what’s happened to Murella (the main protagonist) is in the background of the cover image. At first glance it looks like the lights of a cityscape/tower blocks but it’s actually an image that represents the science element of the story. But again, to tell you what it is would be to compromise the mystery too soon. SO READ THE BOOK.
